Like Ice Blingbling

The Gateron North Pole 2.0 switches have an upgraded structure based on the original North Pole switch. They still retain a fully transparent body and have a nice exterior like glistening ice. These switches also upgraded its buckle from a right angle to an obtuse angle to make this switch easier to plug and unplug. By combining these features together, these Gateron North Pole 2.0 switches provide a smooth and extraordinary typing experience.

Solid sound but over lubed.

I really enjoyed using these switches for my build. Only a few had spring ping, and the lube made them feel very smooth. There is a small silicone dampener stopping the pole from hitting the bottom directly, which is nice for making a deeper sound, but this ended up causing a kind of squishy noise. Basically the lube pooled into where the dampener is and would make small bubbles or a kind of tacky sticky noise. It wasn't so bad across the entire batch. Out of 108, I delubed maybe 20 or so for that noise. Your mileage may vary. Otherwise I really liked these. Put them in a keychron v6 and removed the large silocone pad in that case and now I get a really nice pebbly sound. If you can put up with tuning some of the switches and want a nice pebbly thock, go for these!

Quiet, look amazing, but for me they were an acquired taste

Switch preferences are subjective, so my opinions and preferences are just that - mine. I'm not a switch expert, but I've tried a number of lighter to moderate-weight switches over the years. Tactile Gateron Browns were my favorite until I tried factory lubed Gateron Pro Yellow switches, and it was like a religious experience. So, when I wanted "crystal" switches for a new barebones keyboard with south-facing RGB, I thought North Pole 2.0s would basically be Gateron Pro Yellows, but even BETTER, with an RGB-optimized housing.

Turns out these North Pole 2.0s are a totally different beast. As much as I fell in love with their looks, they felt almost broken to me at first, because they felt heavier than expected and....spongy or gummy, for lack of a better description. Fortunately, the more I use these switches, the more they grow on me. At this point, I still prefer the feeling and sound of Gateron Pro Yellows, but enjoy the North Pole 2.0. They are AMAZING if you love RGB and/or you're considering clear keycaps.

I can't really speak to the "sound profile" of these switches, and am bemused at the relatively new trend of heavily and obsessively modifying keyboards to increase "clack" or "thock". I CAN tell you these are a nearly silent switch, so if you share an office, or need to type while in meetings, these are definitely an appropriate option. From what I understand, the original North Pole switch was of the "thock" variety, but apparently a rubber pad was added to the bottom housing of v2 (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/ze8psa/gateron_north_pole_20_different_from_what_it_used/). I'm assuming that rubber pad is the source of the quieter sound, as well as that "gummy" sensation, which I no longer notice.

Ultimately, be aware that if you like Gateron Yellows, that doesn't guarantee you'll like THESE Gateron Yellows. And if you liked North Pole v1 switches, you may not like v2. And vice versa. But if you're looking for a moderately heavy linear switch with a clear housing, especially if you need a quiet switch, these are definitely worth a look.
